Science Week

Science Week is a nationwide event that celebrates the part science plays in our lives. In Gonzaga, an exciting programme of special events in December 2017 saw past pupils, guest lecturers, teachers and students combine to celebrate Science. The visit of the reptiles was a particularly popular feature of the week.

Lectures

The lecture programme included Robots in the Workplace by Peter Cosgrove, Wind Energy by Niall McMahon, and Meteorology by Michael Clark.

Physics Demonstrations

Second Year students were lucky to attend a fantastic physics demonstration by Mr David Keenahan.

Tree Orienteering

Organised by the Green Schools Committee, a tree orienteering exercise was held for all First Years during their PE classes. The aim was to encourage students to take a closer look at some of the fantastic trees on the Gonzaga grounds and to learn some of their names. The boys took part very enthusiastically in the exercise. Thanks to their PE teachers for facilitating.

Dave's Jungle Reptile Show

We met spiders, snakes and many other creatures thanks to a visit from Dave's Jungle.

All told, large numbers of students engaged with Science in an enjoyable and inspiring way throughout the week. Great credit is due to the Science Staff of the College for imbuing this event with their energy and enthusiasm, and many thanks to other members of staff for contributing to and assisting with the programme of events.

See more photos of the week here.
