Honoring Cannonball Moments in the Year of Ignatius

Today 500 years ago, one painful moment changed a man's life, which in turn changed history. This man was Iñigo de Loyola, who later became St Ignatius, the founder of the Society of Jesus, and therefore ultimately the founding father of our Gonzaga College SJ. This painful moment is today known as Ignatius' "cannonball moment".

While Ignatius was recuperating from the wound that damaged his leg at the battle of Pamplona, God brought about his conversion and put him on the road that led to Manresa, Spain. Together with our friends, all Jesuit schools and works, and the whole Church, the universal Society remembers today and for the coming year that privileged moment when the Holy Spirit inspired Ignatius of Loyola in his decision to follow Christ. Now our Father General, Arturo Sosa SJ invites us to deepen our understanding of this pilgrim way and "draw fruit" from it.

Please join our world-wide community to "see all things new in Christ" and to move together into the next 500 years. A Live Prayer Broadcast with Fr General Arturo Sosa SJ that is open to all will be held on Sunday, 23 May at 7pm Irish Time. For more please visit https://ignatius500.global/live/

Lord teach me to be generous,

to serve you as you deserve,

to give and not to count the cost,

to fight and not to heed the wounds,

to toil and not to seek to rest,

to labour and not to seek reward,

save of knowing I do your holy will.

Amen
