We were delighted to welcome Fr Leonard Moloney SJ, Irish Provincial, to Gonzaga College SJ last week to bless and formally open our new 3G astro pitch. He was joined by Gonzaga College SJ rector Fr John O’Keefe, Headmaster Damon McCaul, parent representative (and tireless supporter of Gonzaga rugby) Mr Peter Meagher, Director of Finance Fiachra Etchingham and Development Manager Kathryn Grace.
The sun shone throughout the poignant and inspiriting ceremony during which Fr Leonard referenced a beautiful Genesis passage narrating Jacob’s dream: “This is a holy place and I never knew it... God is in this place... how awe inspiring this place is! This is nothing less than the abode of God and this is the gate of heaven.”
He prayed: “Lord, keep the players safe and free from injury and harm as they play here. Help them to grow and thrive in every way in this school and be able to use their many talents and abilities to serve our world in whatever way they are called to do in the future. And may they remain ‘semper et ubique fidelis’ to the deepest values they have learned in Gonzaga College SJ”
